The Tree
This short (20 minute!) opera, for which I wrote the libretto, has never been performed. It was originally written for a couple I was close to who lived in one of Berlin’s last communal living spaces. They asked me and composer Jochen Neurath to compose something to help them celebrate their marriage. So we came up with a little opera about the day when the tree in the centre of the commune is threatened. But as the wedding and out opening night drew ever closer one unfortunate incident followed another, and the show never took place. In fact, there was enough incident to fill another opera.
A subsequent concert performance scheduled to take place in Bamberg was cancelled for even stranger reasons. So, The Tree is still looking for the perfect time to appear, and hopefully one day it will.
